Today’s Photo of the Day features the Kalashnikov Concern SVCh, a modern 7.62×54R sniper rifle developed as a successor to earlier Russian designated marksman platforms. Built around a short-stroke gas system with a three-position adjustable gas block, the SVCh is intended to deliver consistent accuracy and reliable function across a wide range of conditions.
Said to be designed with contemporary ergonomics in mind, the rifle includes a shock-resistant polymer grip, an adjustable trigger group, and a full-length Picatinny rail along the upper for mounting optics or thermal sights.
With the buttstock extended and flash suppressor fitted, the SVCh measures 1,170 mm in length and uses a 620 mm barrel. Unloaded, it weighs 4.8 kilograms.
The rifle is intended for engagements out to roughly 1,000 meters, giving marksmen the ability to target personnel, firing positions, and lightly protected vehicles.
Introduced into serial production in 2023, the SVCh has since become one of the primary precision rifles fielded by Russian forces in active operations.
