SIG Sauer has announced the M400-FORGE in two configurations: a rifle and a pistol. Both are built around the same cold hammer forged 5.56 NATO barrel, TriggerTech trigger, and ROMEO-MSR Gen II optic, with the primary differences coming down to barrel length, gas system, and brace versus stock.
Both variants share a common feature set that starts with a TriggerTech 3.5 lb two-stage flat blade trigger, a component that typically enters the picture as a (great) aftermarket upgrade on most factory AR-pattern rifles. SIG includes it from the factory on both configurations.
Each also ships with the ROMEO-MSR Gen II red dot, a 2 MOA dot optic rated to 35,000 hours of runtime with 12 illumination settings and IPX7 waterproofing. I wonder if we’ve come to the point in time where (good quality) iron sights are becoming more expensive than red dots?
The free-floating M-LOK handguard runs the full length of the rail with a full-length Picatinny top rail, and both use an ambidextrous charging handle, a reduced-angle grip, and a 30-round polymer magazine.
Receivers are black anodized on the standard models, with the rifle also offered in FDE, Concrete Gray, and Moss Green Cerakote. The pistol is currently available in black only.
Where the two versions of the M400 diverge is in barrel length and configuration. The rifle runs a 16-inch barrel with a mid-length direct impingement gas system, a 6-position Magpul SL-K adjustable stock, and an overall length of 32.25 to 35.5 inches. It weighs 6.8 lbs.
The pistol steps down to an 11.5-inch barrel with a carbine-length gas system, swaps the stock for a Magpul BSL arm brace, and comes in at 27.8 to 29.8 inches overall at 6.2 lbs. Any bystander is going to wonder what the real difference is between these “stocks”, but apparently that’s how the law was written.
Both use a 1:7 twist rate, 1/2×28 threading, and an A2 birdcage flash hider.
Both are covered by SIG’s Infinite Guarantee, the company’s fully transferable lifetime warranty that requires no receipts or registration cards.
The MSRP has not been published at this time. Please don’t blame the messenger.
