Springfield Armory has announced that the St. Louis County Police Department has adopted the Echelon 4.5F 9mm pistol as its new duty sidearm. The Echelon series was developed as a modern, striker-fired platform with a focus on modularity, ergonomics and durability. At the core of the design is the patent-pending Central Operating Group, a self-contained stainless steel chassis that serves as the serialized component. This allows the system to be moved between different grip modules within seconds.
Officers can tailor the pistol to their hand size by selecting from interchangeable grip modules and three included backstraps, while additional small and large grip frames are available separately.
The pistol also incorporates the patent-pending Variable Interface System for direct-mounting optics. The system uses self-locking pins to secure supported optics footprints, more than 30 in total, while maintaining a consistent point of aim and point of impact.
“Springfield Armory has a strong commitment to supporting the law enforcement community,” said Fred Mincks, Springfield Armory’s Law Enforcement Sales Manager. “We are proud to have been able to provide such a capable firearm to the St. Louis County Police Department to help them keep their community safe.”
According to department armorer P.O. Jason Dite, officers in transition training reported positive impressions of the pistol’s performance, ergonomics and slide features, and left-handed officers noted the advantage of the fully ambidextrous controls.
“For any department looking for a new weapon system, we can highly recommend the Springfield Armory Echelon series of pistols as a durable, highly configurable platform that can fulfill multiple roles,” said Dite. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Springfield Armory and the innovative Echelon models.”
