R&R: Reintroducing & Recognizing TNVC

The first time I considered the fact that I was able to purchase night vision was almost 20 years ago. Back then, as a tadpole in a huge pond, I would sometimes peruse the night vision setup picture threads on arfcom to see what was possible. As cool as everything looked, two things stuck with me: It wasn’t cheap, but if I wanted the good stuff, the place to get it was TNVC (Tactical Night Vision Company).

That was back around 2009. Today, in 2026, I have the clarity of hindsight to lean on in being able to say I’ve watched TNVC go from being the preeminent retailer of all things night vision… to being the preeminent retailer of all things night vision with so much more to offer the market, and much more accessibly along the way.
I’ve always advised those in the market wondering what they should purchase and considering the quality of their options— be it a helmet, anything they would attach to it, or any sight or laser pointer or illuminator in the IR spectrum they would attach to their rifle— that if it TNVC carries it, then it’s good to go. Furthermore, if they’re ready to purchase whatever it was in the NV/IR (or thermal) category and TNVC carries it, that they should buy it from them.

This isn’t only because it came with the backing of strong customer service, but because TNVC is staffed by those that are passionate about their craft and know what they’re talking about. They weren’t just sales reps hired into a sales position off of a job fair fresh out of business school. They know their shit, and more often than not had the operational experience using those products to inform their approach to doing business.
That’s been a constant over the last ~20 years. It never changed, and they have stood by that standard of quality, both in product and customer service. However, as time passes, newcomers arrive. Not just manufacturers, but those who would seek to make money selling the product. That’s a natural part of life, as is competition in the market place; and everybody wants to take a shot at the King.

I’ve watched myriad night vision enthusiasts and hobbyists come out of the woodwork setting up shop as garage builders— lacking the guarantee of quality control and expertise in assembly standards. That isn’t a transgression in and of itself, until you pair it with the business model that unfortunately accompanied the vast majority of these garage builders: Casting aspersions at TNVC in an effort to thusly portray themselves as some sort of underdog in the marketplace.
The pitch is simple: they’re the better place to give your business because their product costs less and they believe everyone should have access to that product rather than be priced out— nevermind the lesser quality of components, or the lack of QA/QC, or the shady business practices that accompany the customer feedback.
Where something sounding too good to be true was a given as far as red flags go, it needs to be said from the perspective of a professional: If part of your pitch is knocking the best in the business, you probably don’t have much positive about yourself and what you’re offering to say; at work we call that a clue.

So, in retrospect, some benefit of the doubt has to be extended. Newcomers have entered the scene through various gateways over the years— Family, Video Games, Milsim (Airsoft), etc. Welcome. In the time between my entry into the space, and yours, there’ve been many new output sources from which to gather information, and it is understood that the information you get from those sources calibrates the lens through which you perceive it.
But not all of those sources are worthy— this is why the TASKER Network exists. As it concerns the subject being discussed, you may not be aware of the history, significance, or gravity of TNVC in the I² (Image Intensification) sector of the market. They’d long been established by the time you arrived, you were not here to see them come up and evolve over the years. Your opinion of them may have been tainted by those competing against them; or perhaps those that never even did business with them, acting on behalf of a third party.
This is where we bring everyone up to speed, by reintroducing TNVC to a whole audience that never knew them for their achievements in the market, and recognizing how that all contributed to what is now available to you today. Let’s take it from the top:

Some might look at this timeline presentation and balk; they might say “What lazy writing, all he did was take screenshots from Soldier Systems.” What I’m trying to do is give the newcomer a look through my eyes, and those of us who have been around; we watched those moments happen. We read those headlines as they were published. We’ve seen all of this play out. This is why we don’t entertain the petulant complaints and hand wringing of those whose birth years start with a 2; they just got here.

To put it bluntly, TNVC is the reason the commercial night vision market and open enrollment training for night vision exist in the first place. It’s not to say “We’d never have this without them,” but it was TNVC that laid the groundwork and paved the way for all others to follow and build upon. They get the credit for being the industry leader in their sector of the market for all of these firsts and all of these innovations alongside them. They weren’t just the first to do it, but they kept going and growing as time passed, reaching and enabling more and more people in both the industry and the market in the process.
That’s not to suggest no one else offering similar products or related training is unworthy in comparison. But if we’re being honest, TNVC already conquered the ground upon which they play. The ones doing that IN SPITE of TNVC and marketing themselves to budget ballers are posers by comparison. Don’t take my word for it; the best instructors on the Night Vision topic are ALL in league with TNVC. They’re all friends. They all know each other. Some of them served in the GWOT together or at the same time. They’re not new to this, or many other things the industry has to offer that were always there for newcomers. Another clue for you.
“The T in TNVC doesn’t just stand for Tactical, I want it to stand for Trust,” Ephraim Rogers told me. He said that when I came to him with the idea for this article; that it was troubling to find that so many preoccupied with night vision knew not the significance of TNVC relevant to their interests, or had perhaps condemned them after being misinformed by petulant wannabes with chips on their shoulders— especially in light of the credit card processor mishap that had occurred and kept getting brought up. These two things needed to be addressed.
For those wondering, there was a period where the third party payment processor software TNVC was using had become compromised, and some customers’ payment information had been surreptitiously breached. Despite haranguing from those who would purport to have been ignored after making TNVC aware of the matter, TNVC did their due diligence; they identified and fixed the problem. It is no longer an issue that any customer has to fear from doing business with TNVC. Though some would infer otherwise, TNVC never kept a dime from any compromised sale, and in no way stood to benefit from permitting the issue to persist as others were alleging.

Yes, TNVC is a sponsor of the TASKER Network. But they did not ask me to write this. I wanted to do it, and asked them for their blessing. I felt that the reminder and the record being set straight was needed, in a time when facts are so easily lost in noise made by those who believe their opinions are worth considering for the fact that they have an internet connection and money to spend. Like I said, I’ve been here the whole time. I’ve seen them come up. I watched it all happen in real-time. I know who they are, I know what they do, I have been a customer of theirs for years. It’s my privilege to call them my friends. The TASKER Network accepts their sponsorship, because they have EARNED our support. For all that they’ve done to get us this far, they deserve yours.
Stay Dangerous.
Stay in this L.A.N.E.
