This year is quickly becoming the year of the Aimpoint COA. Since SHOT Show, we have seen a lot of companies offer this popular enclosed emitter optic because of its durability, reliability, and its unique yet secure mounting system. Springfield Armory announced Echelon models that will be outfitted from the factory with Aimpoint COA red dots earlier this year, and now you can add the 1911 Operator, 1911 TRP, and 1911 DS Prodigy to that list as well.

Springfield Armory Aimpoint COA-Equipped 1911 & 1911 DS Prodigy
For those who might be unfamiliar with the craze that is sweeping the gun industry, the Aimpoint COA is an enclosed emitter red dot, meaning dirt, debris, and other grime can’t obstruct your red dot. Yes, debris can temporarily obstruct your view, but you can simply wipe it off. Easy-peasy. The Aimpoint COA A-CUT (its attachment method) is a unique yet firm attachment style utilizing a front hook and a rear wedge. This secure attachment system lends itself to durability, reliability, and repeatable quality as we alluded to earlier. Other desirable attributes are its night-vision settings, a side-loading CR2032 battery, and a 7075-T6 aluminum housing.

“We’re proud to announce these new Aimpoint COA-equipped 1911 and 1911 DS Prodigy pistol offerings to complement our previously launched Echelon COA pistols,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “Pairing the rugged and durable Aimpoint COA closed-emitter optic with these dedicated A-CUT pistols provides shooters with an appealing combination of a cutting-edge optic with the proven 1911 and 1911 DS platforms.””
Final Thoughts
The only thing that might drive shooters away from these newly released offerings from Springfield Armory is the price. With the TRP, Operator, and 1911 DS Prodigy fluttering around $1,600 to $2,400 that is simply a lot of money. The quality is absolutely present, but for shooters who are more budget-minded, that is a large price tag to swallow.
