The image shows a machine gunner with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, during a live-fire range at Camp Schwab. I think it’s safe to say he’s not carrying his machine gun in this image, but the M27. But what’s interesting is the HERA Arms CQR front grip, which is a first to me at least. The training was focused on maintaining and reinforcing marksmanship fundamentals, a core requirement regardless of weapon system or assignment.

Originally introduced to replace the M249 at the squad level, the M27 has increasingly taken on a broader role as a standard-issue rifle.

Which knee do you usually have touching the ground, in positions like this?

The M27 isn’t available to civilians, but you can get somewhat close with options from Heckler & Koch. The HERA Arms CQR GEN 2.0 Front Grip, however, is available if you like to put one on your own rifle. Some love it, some hate it. What’s your take?
