Interoperability is more than shared equipment. It comes down to how well units from different countries can train, communicate, and execute under pressure. Recent images from Grafenwoehr Training Area are the topic for today’s Photo Of The Day, and show that process in action during a joint small arms training event. The images capture U.S. and German personnel working side by side on the range, and German soldiers with the U.S. SIG Sauer pistols.

Soldiers from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment trained alongside German officer candidates from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, focusing on precision shooting fundamentals, with what I suspect is a completely new handgun for them.

The emphasis was not just on individual marksmanship, but on operating as a combined unit. Communication, movement, and consistency across different training backgrounds were key elements throughout the exercise.
