After spending too much time in the safe, this Tikka T3x TAC A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor is back where it belongs – on the range. As winter gives way to spring, conditions are opening up for precision rifle training, and platforms like this are built to be used, not stored.
I also gave my new Armageddon Tripod Caddy a first try. I’ve been looking for something like this for a long while, and I look forward to using it more. They make some of the best shooting bags as well, and I love their sticky pad material and double-waxed textiles.
This particular rifle has been upgraded with a Spuhr SICS chassis, providing a more rigid and adaptable setup for positional shooting. The system has also been Cerakoted in a custom finish inspired by HIR-601, often referred to as Swedish Flat Dark Earth, giving it a distinctive look. A look that changes depending on the lighting, and can look anywhere from brown to grey.
The rifle scope is a Schmidt & Bender 5-45x PM II. Perhaps a bit of an overkill for this rifle, but it’s fun to ask your friend what the steel looks like with 45 power, when they only have 40 power maximum.
With PRS-style training back on the schedule, rifles like the T3x TAC A1 continue to demonstrate their versatility. I used the cheapest factory ammo I could buy, and I’m still able to hit the 10cm round plate repeatedly at 310 meters.
The bipod is from MDT, called Lightweight CkyePod.
The spring is also a great period to try out the gear you’ve collected during the winter, and here are the new Vortex Talon 12×50 HD 10K Laser Range Finder Binoculars. They are nothing but outstanding, and will range up to 10,000 yards. I’ve lasered up to 6,550 meters so far, and it’s difficult to find places to try it out.
The Vortex Talon HD is $3,799.99 (MSRP), but the performance is really up there as well.
What are your plans for the 2026 shooting season?
